Learn more about the people behind Families as Partners

Maria Rosas contributes to the learning community of Austin Independent School District (AISD) in the area of parent engagement and development. Under AISD Social & Emotional Learning and Cultural Proficiency & Inclusiveness, she oversees the Families as Partners Program. The focus of the program includes cultivating trust and building collaborative and equity-focused partnerships between schools and communities. During her 22 years at Austin ISD, she has led and developed partnerships with families, educators, and community agencies to create genuine and authentic engagement between families and schools. Maria is passionate about connecting adults and building their capacities to have positive long-term effects on the life of students and their families.

Maria Matts grew up on the Texas coast and earned a degree from the University of Houston in Psychology and Women’s Studies. She has been in the field of Early Childhood Education as a teacher, administrator, and trainer, always with a focus on the Importance of Play and for recognizing the Whole Child. As a member of the Early Learning Department, Maria has contributed to AISD through Pre-K Partnerships and in her current role as the AISD Home Visiting Program Specialist. She has always been a proponent of creating strong family relationships and encouraging individuals to become the best versions of themselves.
